building a casita in the backyard

Casita means “fountain of water” in Spanish and is one of the popular structures used by Mexican-Americans. You may also know it as a “backyard fort”, or even a “garden shed”. Casitas are built to guard or enclose a courtyard, porch, or garden. There are a number of reasons why someone would want to build one in their own backyard. They usually come with a built-in wooden or cement floor, which is easy to maintain. Other people choose to use them as an extension of their home, surrounded by a privacy fence that works as the home’s moat.
