Brick Expert Tips

1
The 5% Wastage Rule

Bricks chip and break during transport and cutting. Always order 5% more than your calculated exact quantity.

2
Don't Forget Mortar

Our calculator automatically accounts for a standard 10mm mortar joint. This saves you from accidentally over-ordering bricks.

3
Quality Grades

Use 1st class bricks for load-bearing walls. They should ring with a clear metallic sound when struck together.

Professional Brick Estimation Guide

Accurately estimating the number of bricks prevents project delays and budget overruns. This calculator does more than just divide areas—it accounts for the real-world realities of masonry.

Why add 5% wastage?

No brick shipment is perfect. During transportation, unloading, cutting bricks for edges, and general masonry work, breakage occurs. The industry standard is to add a 5% wastage factor to your final count so you don't run short on the last day of the build.

The Role of Mortar

A wall isn't just bricks; it's bricks and mortar. By default, our system adds a standard 10mm (1cm) mortar joint thickness to the length and height of every single brick during calculation. This ensures your estimate is surgically precise rather than over-estimating based on raw brick size alone.
