Round columns require less concrete than square columns of the same width, but they require specialized circular formwork (like sonotubes or steel drums).

We automatically add a 5% wastage factor to the calculation. It's common to spill some concrete or lose it to the unevenness of the excavated footing.

When pouring round columns, thorough vibration is critical to prevent "honeycombing" (air pockets) on the curved surface which ruins the aesthetic finish.
