Plastering Expert Tips
1
Thickness Matters
Internal walls usually get 12mm plaster. External walls are exposed to weather and require 15mm to 20mm (usually done in two coats).
2
The 1.33 Multiplier
Unlike concrete which uses 1.54, mortar for plastering requires multiplying wet volume by 1.33 to get the dry volume, because sand has smaller voids.
3
Correct Ratio
Use a richer 1:4 ratio (Cement:Sand) for ceilings where gravity pulls the mix down, and a standard 1:6 ratio for interior brick walls.
